A Year full of Fun!

After a great year of learning, playing, writing and just having fun, everyone is dying for a break.  Here’s highlights from the year:

School Swimming Carnival, March: Every March there is an annual school swimming carnival for all the schools in the district to enter. It’s only for primary school students aged from grade 3-6 and is held at  the Kardinia  swimming pool, outside Simonds Stadium ( The Geelong Cats home ground). Since I was in grade 3, I have entered in the competition in butterfly and backstroke. I got to the regionals ( the next stage of swimming) in butterfly in grade 3 and also this year, grade 5.  I was extremely proud of myself since I bet my practise time by 10 seconds!! It was a great experience.

Port Douglas, July-August: For three years now, we’ve been going to Port Douglas, a town about an hour north of Cairns. I just absolutely love it. It has got a beautiful clean, warm beach, one of the best main streets full of delicious food, the best gelato shop ever, and even a shop called Josephine’s!! ( My real name, if you’re wondering) We had endless times full of just swimming in the beach, splashing in the pool, eating at delicious restaurants, and of course, a lot of slurping up the delicious gelato in the sun. The overall best time in Port Douglas of course, was Jungle Surfing through the Daintree Rainforest at Cape Tribulation. It was an amazing experience, but I have to rap things up so if you want more in jungle surfing click here:

Falls Creek, August-September: Since I was about six years old I started skiing at Falls Creek. This year was one of the best years at the snow. The season apparently the bets snow season for 20 years, with the snow peaking up at 170cm. ( Yes around the world that’s nothing, but Australian snow isn’t the best so that’s like heaven!!) I enjoyed it much more since I was in the level I needed to be in , because I was put in the level with my sister that I was to good for ( I don’t mean to sound fantastic, it was only level 4) .  I made friends and on a terrible afternoon, when my sister and I were the only ones, our teacher teamed up with another instructor and we got hot cinnamon donuts. Delicious!!!

AFL Knockout round, Mid September: As you probably know, I’m a big fan of the North Melbourne Kangaroos. So this year Dad brought Sabrina and I up to a finals round that North was playing. They were up against Essendon, possibly their biggest rivals. At half quarter time we were neck and neck. By half time we were 30 points down. A disaster. Three quarter time was a miracle. New recruit Ben Brown ( who we called Ben Orange after his hair.) kicked 3 goals in 11 minutes with a few goals from Boomer Harvey and Lindsay Thomas. The last quarter was intence, to say the least. We were neck and neck until, suddenly, Drew Petrie came out from behind and kicked the 2 last goal. We had won!!! More on the Kangas final season, read:

Burley Heads, September: Every year our Nanna brings up 2 grand kids up to Burley Heads for a week. I was so lucky to have gone twice in a row, once with Sabrina ( 2013) but last year I went with my cousin Archie! We had a great time. Archie and I went to WB Movie World in the Gold Coast!  My favourite ride was the Wild West Canyon! It was amazing!! We spent all our time at the hotel either playing Uno, having fun in the games room, or swimming in the pool! It was an amazing holiday!!

Hobart ,October: This year I was lucky enough to go to go to Hobart with Mum for a weekend. It was so fun! My favourite thing was going to MONA. It was amazing! There was everything awesome, from a blown up red Porsche, to an exhibition showing the making of poo!! MONA was fantastic. For the full coverage of Tassie read:

So that my year’s best moments, so Thank You to everyone who supported me throughout the year, it was awesome!!

A Busy Week Full of Fun!

This week was so busy, I couldn’t choose what to write about. So I’m just going to tell you everything!!

Monday: On Monday we had basketball in Under 14’s. Our team is really bad (no offence guys!),  we’ve got two grade 3’s ( supposed to be in under 12’s) our 2 tallest players aren’t that tall, and Olivia, a friend, Lucy, another friend, and me. We are each 11. We lost (again) but got our highest score and if the team weren’t that tall, we would’ve won. It was 10-28.

Tuesday: Tuesday was a VERY big day for me. I’m going for school captain, and I did my speech in front of the 2-6’s who vote after the speeches are finished. My speech went pretty well, I think, I didn’t get much stage fright, but I was tapping my foot the entire time! Besides from that I think I did pretty well, I hope. Fingers crossed!

Wednesday: On Wednesday I did the school captain interview. The principle (Mrs A), Mrs Hill, Harriet and Geordie ( current school captains, we don’t have a vice, our school has only around 180 students) and Michelle ( School council president) were there. I think I did okay in the interview, you could tell I was nervous, but I answered the questions well, I hope.

Friday (nothing happened on Thursday): Friday was when Sabrina, my sister, and I did our music concert. I played Fix You-Coldplay on the piano, Sabrina sang Castle on the Clouds, from Les Miserable, and then we did a duet together. She sang Who Knew-Pink and played the piano to it. Luckily, we didn’t stuff up, so we played pretty well.

Saturday: Saturday was probably the most tiring day of all. We first woke up and went into Geelong to see a Mini Groodle, a cross between a Golden Retriever and a poodle (called a Goldendoodle in USA).  These were the mum and dad that were going to have puppies in April/ May, 2015. They are both 3/4  mini poodle, a 1/4 Golden Retiever. They are only about 10cm ( max) bigger than a miniature poodle. Both fluffy (a quality in a dog I love!), have great friendly natures, gorgeous ears and love a swim. These dogs are perfect for our family.

After that we went to Adventure Park ( which is in Wallington, not Geelong). My favourite ride was the Gold Rush Rapids, the blue water slide next to the yellow one, or the adult go karts. I got two shots of it since I wanted to go with dad. On the second turn I wouldn’t let dad overtake me until the last moment when another car ganged up with dad and over took me on the last lap!

So that was my busy week full of fun!

Every two years, the 5/6’s are lucky enough to  do a snorkeling program! Well, on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday,  it was our turn. Here’s what we did…

On Monday Mrs Hill’s class ( my class) went a  special pool to practise snorkeling before going to the beach, on Wednesday,  and actually go snorkeling. The two instructors, Alex and Peri, taught us how to use flippers ( many of us new how to do this, we’re not that bad!) to duckdive, equalize while duckdiving and what to do in an emergency.  We got to keep the snorkel, which was extremly nice considering that the program was free!

On Tuesday the other grade went, so there isn’t much to write about because I didn’t go!

Finally, Wednesday. Our grade was first. We got into our wetsuits, and went down to the beach. It was very calm water, with no waves at all. Everone ran into the water straight away.  We went snorkeling at Harry’s Reef, near Harry’s Café. My partner, Jess, and I had a great time. We saw sea urchins, squid eggs, a catshark, lots of fish, heaps of sea stars ( they’re not called starfish, as they are not fish) and about a million types of seaweed and plants.

I had a great time snorkeling and  a big Thank You Alex and Peri, who gave up their time to teach us for free, the Borough of Queenscliff for founding the program, and of course, Thank You to Mrs Hill and Mrs Barry for letting us go!!

Falls Creek

I know I’ve just done a post on Mt Buller, but we get to go to Falls Creek, as a family!

Falls Creek is another ski resort in Victoria. It’s a bit further from Melbourne, about 4\5 hours. It gets more snow than Mt Buller though.

Anyway, this year our family went to Falls Creek for a whole week!! Here’s a list of everything we did each day:

Friday: The travel day. We got into the car at about 8:30am. Since we don’t live in Melbourne it took us 6 hours to get there. We arrived at about 3:00pm. We walked to our apartment. It was near the Falls Express ( the main chairlift), so it only took us about 30 seconds to get into our apartment. We hired our ski gear and carried them up to the apartment. Pretty boring day.

Saturday: Saturday was probably my favourite day. It was sunny all day. We started ski school on Saturday. Sabrina ( my sister) and I were in level 5. We got a teacher called Millie. She was really nice. We had quite a big group, there was about 10 of us, but I still had heaps of fun and made alot of friends. We had lunch at the Last Hoot, which was delicious. After that the group got a bit smaller, it was now half day. We went down Lakeside, International and Short and Curly, Towers and the Drovers Terrain park and heaps of other runs that I’ve forgot.

Sunday: Sunday was a good day, but not my favourite. It was terrible weather the whole day, especially the afternoon. There was a nice little group in the morning, but in the afternoon, it was just Sabrina and I. Since we were the only ones in the group, Millie met up with her friend, that was a snowboarding instructor, and we got to have a hot cinnamon donut!! It was so yum!! The  rest of the day we went around Towers, it was to cold to go anywhere else!!

Monday: Monday was quite a good day. It was sunny again. Millie wasn’t there that day, so we had a new teacher, Petr. The group was different today. We went around Ruined Castle, Scotts, Towers and Lakeside. I still made heaps of friends though. We had lunch at Dicky Knees, which was nice. After ski school, my friend Lucy came over to our apartment for dinner. It was alot of fun.

Tuesday: Tuesday was sunny again. We had Petr again.  We went to the Eagle Chair, Lakeside, Ruined Castle and some other runs I’ve forgot. We had lunch at Dicky Knees again. After ski school we went to Milch for an early dinner. It was very nice. Since we didn’t stay infalls creek map the village, we had to ski back down in the dark!

Wednesday: On Wednesday it was as sunny as ever. We did ski school again and had Petr. We went down International and Skyline, Lakeside, Runied Castle, and Towers. We had lunch at the Frying Pan, which was nice. After ski school I went over to my Lucy’s apartment and had dinner. It was a bit annoying because she was going night skiing. But I still had fun. I watched a bit of Mrs Doubtfire with Lucy, Abby and Elsie.

Thursday: Thursday was our last day of skiing. It was race day. The nastar race course opens every Thrusday for ski school to race their classmates. We had a small group, only 5 people were racing. I came second. The rest of the day we went around Towers and Lakeside. We had lunch at the Frying Pan again. It was yum!

Friday: On Friday we didn’t ski. We packed our bags, retured our gear. We decided to walk up to the village and do Snow Tubing. We arrived at the park but were told that they started an hour late. So we walked back to the car and drove home.

Mt Buller

Every year we go up to the snow once or twice. Dad picks someone to go with him to Mt Buller, and then we go up as a family to Falls Creek.  We this time Dad didn’t take just one of use, or two, he took us all!! Plus our Nanna too!!!

Friday: This year ( as I said) Sabrina, Tessa (my sisters) and I went up to Mt Buller with our Nanna. We drove up and arrived at about 10.30am. We signed into our lodge, hired our skiies and were skiing by 12.00pm.  We had lunch at Koflers, which is very delicious and

busy, but I noticed it was quite small. We skied the for the rest of the day and then went out for dinner at Dad’s favourite, Pension Grimmus. When I was little I went out to Pension Grimmus and had a delicious Apple Crumble. When I looked at the dessert menu I saw a Rhubarb Crumble, so I ordered it straight away. It wasn’t quite to my expertations, but I am quite a fussy eater.Saturday: On Saturday I had ski school for the first day. We went on Family Run and the Skyline T-bar, on Shakey Knees and Tirol. We went to Spurs for lunch. We had Chicken Nuggets and chips for lunch and a bit of jelly. We went on Burnt Hut and Burke Street too. We went on HEAPS of runs. At the end of the day I went for a little ski with dad on Little Buller Spur and Wombat before it was time to go back to our lodge and have a Saturday night communal dinner. We had soup for an entrée, pasta for the main, and gelato for dessert. The dinner was Italian themed. At the end every table had to come up and say an Italian joke in front of everyone. Our table said: “What do you call an Italian with a cold? Julius Sneezer!!!” We all got a packet of Tim Tams as reward.

Sunday: On Sunday we went to ski-school for half the day. We skied down HEAPS of runs. My favourite run we skied would have been Tirol. We had lunch at Spurs again. For lunch we had pizza and chips with jelly. Then Dad came and picked us up and we packed up and went on the shuttle to get to our car. We dropped Nanna off hours later and went home, all of us feeling quite sick.

Well, although we were feeling sick at the end, going to Mt Buller was really fun, thanks for taking Dad and Nono!!

7 Days of my Life.

I know I’ve done few posts on this, but my week keeps changing, over and over, and I can hardly keep up!!

Monday: On Monday I’ve got basketball. Our team’s going quite well this season, we’ve only lost one game. The game we lost was 13-23, which was this week!!  Our best player was away, but I still got two goals, so I’m happy.

Tuesday: On Tuesday I’ve got music lessons with my sister. She sings and I play the piano. Sometimes we do a duet together. I’m working on doing the piano to the song Crazy, by Gnarls Bakely.

Wednesday: On Wednesday I either go to my sisters  swimming lesson or chill out at home watching T.V. Pretty relaxing day.

Thursday: Thursday’s the early morning day. On Thursday I’ll start doing early morning swimming lessons with my friend Lucy. It goes from six ’til seven in the morning!! In the afternoon I have nothing at all, maybe a play or two.

Friday: Nothing. I will NEVER, NEVER in a MILLION years have ANYTHING on a Friday. Fridays my day to just sit and relax in front of the T.V.

Saturday: Nothing at all. Maybe drive up to Melbourne for the weekend, or perhaps a family outing.

Sunday: Sunday I do this basketball drill session with Sabrina and some friends. The rest of the time I’m relaxing in front of the TV.

A Few Things You Need To Know…

Every week there’s normally one big, terrific thing. Sometimes it’s a book I’ve finished. Sometimes I went to the cienima. But this week nothing really happened exciting happened, but there’s a few things that make the list…

Monday Afternoon: On Monday afternoon I started playing basketball. I think we moved up a level, we won the Grand Final last year. The team we verused thrashed us, the final score was something like 37-2. I had a great time though,  and the team is really nice.

Tuesday Night: On Tuesday night I had a great time. My cousins from Austria came down to our house. We made a delicious meal and I ate at least ¼ of the cannonbeer cheese!!! Yum!!! Sabrina and I performed a duet, Sabrina singing and me playing the piano. It was so much fun!!!!!!

Saturday Afternoon: On Saturday morning we drove up to Melbourne. Mum and Dad let Sabrina, Tessa and I go to Clip ‘n Climb. Clip ‘n Climb is a big climbing centre in Melbourne. It’s got 33 different climbing walls plus the leap of faith and  the vertical slide. I went on every wall besides two and the leap of faith. You get instucted for 15 mins and climb for 45 mins!!!! It was tremedous fun!!!!

Saturday Night: On top of driving to Melbourne and Clip ‘n Climb, we went to one of Mum’s friends house, Jen and Glen’s. They have two children, Edward and Eloise. We got to watch a movie but I went down to watch the AFL, Essendon vs Bulldogs. I watch the middle of the second quater- just past half time. In the end Essendon won. While I watch some of their pets, Mable ( the dog) and Felix ( the cat, sometimes he didn’t stay). Mable layed on me while I watched and Felix lay further back, but I could just pat him. I had a wonderful time.

Mid Sunday: Sunday morning was pouring with rain. But we got an outing. We got to go to Brunett’s.  I got a very nice maggerita pizza slice. after that we went to Readings,  the BIG bookshop across the road. I got the book Divergent, a book a friend  recommended. After that we went straight to one of my dad’s friends houses. That was terrific fun!!!

A Social and Exciting blur…

Most of the week has been social and exciting blur,  but here’s just the best bits:

Tuesday: On Tuesday I went to a the regainals in swimming. I went in 50m butterfly and got 3rd in my heat, but 13th overall. I got a new best time of 50.54. On Friday at whole school assembly I got to go up and say what I did. When I was walking up I herad someone say ” That’s Tesssa’s sister” when I was walking up. ( Tessa is my little sister) It was so cute!!

Saturday: On Saturday we went up to Melbourne to see mum’s friend Ange And her kids Zoe and Milly ( It could be spelled Millie, I not sure!!). We went down to a great park and I climbed a few trees there too. We had a delicious picnic under a nice tree. It was really nice.

Sunday: On Sunday we went to another friend of mum’s house, Moi and Trever. We played with their kids Sassy ( or Sassie I’m not sure) and Heidi. The eldest sister Claudia wasn’t there at the time. We played on the trampoline, explored the house and played alot of Just Dance on the Wii.We had a great time.

So that’s all for this week, but there’ll be more to come…

PS: I won’t do a post next week since I’ll be on holidays!!!! So exciting!!!!

The Odd Ones In!

There’s always some little event or two that I miss, so here’s the events:

Event 1: I went in a swimming carnval about 2 weeks ago. I did 50m backstroke, butterfly and butterfly in the medley. I came 2nd in butterfly with a time of 50.94 sec,  and got into the regainals (I forgot my time for the others)!! I was the only one who got into the regainals in my school!!!

Event 2: The footy. I went to a pratcise match at Simonds Stadium. It was Geelong Cats vs North Melbourne Kangaroos on a Friday night, with the lights! The score was North Melbourne: 9 goals, 13 behinds: 67 ( or 10 goals 7 behinds) and North Melbourne: 11 goals, 10 behinds: 76. The underdogs won! The footy season has started with the opening game Collingwood vs Freamantle. Freamantle thrashed Collingwood by something like 70pts!

Event 3: The long weekend. On the long weekend I got to see Ella, my best friend. She moved to a place ages away so I only see her on the holidays. We went to the beach and played with her ‘Rainbow Loon’  kit. It was so much fun.

Event 4: Melbourne. We went to Melbourne for a few nights and stayed at our nanna’s house.  We went to Imax ( the world’s 3rd largest screen!!!) to see ‘Flight of the Butterflies’. It was really good.  It’s about a man who is on a mission to discover the migating paths of the Monarch Butterfly. He finds a family and discovers an organisation to help. Finally, after 50 or so years, he gets it!

So there you go, all the little events that are the odd ones out!
